FARM  VISIT

Sparrow Class - our Reception children - had a beautiful day for their exciting trip to Mead Open Farm.

We were joined by the Reception children from Sherington School - it was a lovely opportunity to make new friends.

We all enjoyed feeding the goats, alpacas and the very noisy sheep.

Mead Open Farm

The bunny hop was very popular - 4 soft and curious rabbit hoped around while we stroked them - so soft and friendly.

The lovely farmer told us all about their cows.  We learnt that they have beef couws and dairy cows.

The farmer also helped us answer ur big question - "Do cows drink milk?"  and the answer was yes - and no!.  Calves do, and adult cows don't - how interesting.

A bus full of very tired but happy children at the end of the day.

We were lucky enough to be given the chance to give the hungry lambs their milk - they can drink very quickly!.

Other highlights included digging and building in the sand, climbing on the huge climbing frame and the ride on tractors

YEAR 2 PUPIL AT

  ST ANDREW'S C.E. INFANTS

A few months ago the company Ringway

(MK Council Gritter Contractors)

ran a competition.

This was held throughout all local schools.

The idea of the competition was for pupils to colour a poster of a gritter and come up with a name for a new gritter.

One of our Year 2 pupils

has been picked out as winner.

in the Key Stage 1 group.

The name she came up with was

"Grandad".

One of the real-life Ringway gritters has been signwritten to this effect.

One of our Reception Pupils

was also picked out as winner

in the Early Years group.

The name she came up with was

"Poppy"

All winners will receive vouchers.

On Monday 8th December the winners were invited down to the depot in Bleak Hall.

They were able to see their named gritter, have a look around the rest of the salt barn and depot.

The winning gritter posters were laminated for use

The winners also received a prize from a special guest.

St Andrew's Little Monsters

The Reception children had great fun creating Monsters during their recent after school art club.

November 2014   -    Felt Leaf Making

Creative Artist - Pippa North - visited St Andrew's. Pippa is a felt maker - using traditional methods of hand making felt.

Pippa has visited our children before - on that occassion she helped them make a poppy and then they created our poppy field mural shown in this picture

During her recent visit Pippa showed the children how to make leaves from felt.

The children discussed our school Vision and Values and from this they chose the colours for their leaves and the tree branches.

The New Term  -  Autumn 2014

September 29th

The children in the year 1 and 2 classes

are  enjoying the experiences of their

new curriculum.

They are also making the most of their

opportunities.

The after school clubs are all full -

giving the children an extended day

to learn new skills, such as sewing,

football and taking part in hands on

            scientific investigations.

    Our Tuesday football club is

                                      run by a professional coach.

The children in our Monday after school

sewing club  are using their skills to make a

        decorative colourful mat.

22nd September

School Dinners

During the summer holidays building work was

carried out in school.  This included

transforming .one of our areas into a Serving

Area and Dining area in readiness for the new

     free hot school meal initiative.

All our children receive a free, nutritious, hot

meal. They have a choice each day of a healthy,

tasty main meal, or a vegetarian option or a

     jacket potatoe with filling

     They also  have a pudding.

They are eager to enjoy their meal and

the social interaction.

As there is so little waste,

this we think proves their popularity

Some of the children's comments are:-

" I like all the dinners and I eat all of it"

"The cakes and the puddings are all really nice"

             " I enjoy the vegetables - they're

                delicious".

"I love how the rice is cooked".

"My favourites are the peas and

                 jacket potatoes"

"I enjoy eating the ginger biscuits the

                 flavour is great".

15th September 2014

Our new Reception children are all settling well into their new environment. We have 16 children

in Reception and they are already enjoying all

aspects of school life including P.E., assemblies,

working with outside specialist teachers and

interacting with school friends over the hot school lunches.

One of our school Parent Governors observed the children leaving school "skipping and laughing with big smiles on their faces."

She commented   "I watch how quickly the

children have settled and how happy they are."

When the children were asked about their day

some of the replies included  "I had so much

fun",   "I had an amazing day",  "It was great".

During the summer term, St Andrews CE Infant School had an unexpected visitor.  A gentleman, Derek Gutteridge, who used to live in Great Linford village when he was a small boy and attended St Andrews Infant School more than 50 years ago, popped in on holiday from the Lake District on the chance that he could look at how the building had changed. more >>

If taking the whole school on a trip to the seaside seems an impossible dream, then the alternative could be to bring the seaside to school! That's exactly what has happened at St Andrews CE Infant School in Great Linford. The walk was in aid of Schoolchildren For Children – this charity is supported by Dame Kelly Holmes.  The charities aim is to expand school participation nationally in sporting/healthy activities.  The children of St Andrews raised a total of £267 – a great achievement for such a small school.  The charity received  50% of this total and the remaining 50% was for the benefit of the school.
